{"id":44837,"date":"2025-02-16T12:01:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-16T12:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gloireadieu.com\/english\/?p=44837"},"modified":"2025-02-16T12:05:19","modified_gmt":"2025-02-16T12:05:19","slug":"love-your-enemies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gloireadieu.com\/english\/blog\/love-your-enemies.html","title":{"rendered":"Love Your Enemies"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Pray for the enemies<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Jesus said to his disciples: \u201cTo you who hear I say, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.\u201d\u00a0 Luke 6:27-28<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These words are clearly easier said than done.\u00a0 When it comes right down to it, when someone acts in hate toward you and mistreats you, the last thing you want to do is love them, bless them and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gloireadieu.com\/english\/prayers\/can-prayer-really-change-your-life.html\">pray for them<\/a>.\u00a0 But Jesus is very clear on the fact that this is what we are called to do.<\/p>\n<p>In the midst of some direct persecution or malice done to us, we can easily be hurt.\u00a0 This hurt can lead us to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gloireadieu.com\/english\/prayers\/prayers-against-evil\/prayers-to-guardian-angels-against-evil.html\">anger<\/a>, desires for revenge, and even hatred.\u00a0 If we give in to these temptations, then we suddenly become the very thing that hurt us.\u00a0 Sadly, hating those who have hurt us only makes things worse.<\/p>\n<p>But it would be naive to deny a certain interior tension we all face when we are confronted with harm from another and the command from<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gloireadieu.com\/english\/prayers\/hope-to-obey-hard-commands.html\"> Jesus<\/a> to love them in return.\u00a0 If we are honest we must admit to this interior tension.\u00a0 The tension comes as we try to embrace the command of total love despite the hurt and angry feelings we have.<\/p>\n<p>One thing this interior tension reveals is that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gloireadieu.com\/english\/prayers\/prayers-for-healing\/the-harmonizing-love-of-god-is-mine.html\">God<\/a> wants so much more for us than to simply live a life based on our feelings.\u00a0 Being angry or hurt is not all that enjoyable.\u00a0 In fact, it can be the cause of much misery.\u00a0 But it doesn\u2019t have to be.\u00a0 If we understand this command of Jesus to love our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gloireadieu.com\/english\/prayers\/prayers-against-evil\/prayer-to-archangel-michael-for-help-against-spiritual-enemies.html\">enemies<\/a>, we will start to understand that this is the path out of the misery.\u00a0 We will start to realize that giving in to hurt feelings and returning anger for anger or hate for hate only makes the wound deeper.\u00a0 On the other hand, if we can love when we are mistreated, we suddenly discover that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gloireadieu.com\/english\/prayers\/prayers-protect-family\/prayer-for-those-we-love.html\">love<\/a> in this case is quite powerful.\u00a0 It\u2019s love that goes way beyond any feeling.\u00a0 It\u2019s true love purified and given freely as a gift from God.\u00a0 It\u2019s charity at the highest level and it is a charity that fills us with an abundance of authentic joy.<\/p>\n<p>Reflect, today, upon any wounds you carry within.\u00a0 Know that these wounds can become the source of your own holiness and happiness if you let God transform them and if you allow God to fill your heart with love for everyone who has mistreated you.<\/p>\n<p><i>Lord, I know that I am called to love my enemies.\u00a0 I know that I am called to love all those who have mistreated me.\u00a0 Help me to surrender to You any feelings of anger or hate and replace those feelings with true charity.\u00a0 Jesus, I trust in You.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> &#8230;
