{"id":44845,"date":"2025-02-16T12:10:46","date_gmt":"2025-02-16T12:10:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gloireadieu.com\/english\/?p=44845"},"modified":"2025-02-16T12:10:46","modified_gmt":"2025-02-16T12:10:46","slug":"begging-for-mercy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gloireadieu.com\/english\/blog\/begging-for-mercy.html","title":{"rendered":"Begging for Mercy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A certain Pharisee invited Jesus to dine with him, and he entered the Pharisee\u2019s house and reclined at table. Now there was a sinful woman in the city who learned that he was at table in the house of the Pharisee. Bringing an alabaster flask of ointment, she stood behind him at his feet weeping and began to bathe his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them, and anointed them with the ointment.\u00a0 Luke 7:36-38<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In part, this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gloireadieu.com\/english\/blog\/what-is-gospel.html\">Gospel<\/a> is about the Pharisee.\u00a0 If we read on in this passage we see the Pharisee becoming quite judgmental and condemning of this woman and Jesus.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gloireadieu.com\/english\/blog\/love-your-enemies.html\"> Jesus<\/a> rebuked Him just as He has done so many times before with the Pharisees.\u00a0 But this passage is much more than a rebuke of the Pharisees.\u00a0 At its heart, it\u2019s a story of love.<\/p>\n<p>The love is that love in the heart of this sinful woman.\u00a0 It\u2019s a love manifested in sorrow for sin and deep humility.\u00a0 Her sin was great and, as a result, so was her humility and love.\u00a0 Let\u2019s look at that humility first.\u00a0 It is seen in her actions as she came to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gloireadieu.com\/english\/prayers\/hope-to-obey-hard-commands.html\"> Jesus<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>First, \u201cshe stood behind Him\u2026\u201d<br \/>\nSecond, she fell down \u201cat His feet\u2026\u201d<br \/>\nThird, she was \u201cweeping\u2026\u201d<br \/>\nFourth, she washed His feet \u201cwith her tears\u2026\u201d<br \/>\nFifth, she dried His feet \u201cwith her hair\u2026\u201d<br \/>\nSixth, she \u201ckissed\u201d His feet.<br \/>\nSeventh, she \u201canointed\u201d His feet with her costly perfume.<\/p>\n<p>Stop for a moment and try to imagine this scene.\u00a0 Try to see this sinful woman humbling herself in love before Jesus.\u00a0 If this full action is not an act of deep sorrow, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gloireadieu.com\/english\/prayers\/prayers-against-evil\/prayer-to-archangel-michael-for-help-against-spiritual-enemies.html\">repentance<\/a> and humility then it\u2019s hard to know what else it is.\u00a0 It\u2019s an action that is not planned out, not calculated, not manipulative.\u00a0 Rather, it\u2019s deeply humble, sincere and total.\u00a0 In this act, she cries out for mercy and compassion from Jesus and she doesn\u2019t even have to say a word.<\/p>\n<p>Reflect, today, upon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gloireadieu.com\/english\/prayers\/how-faith-impacts-your-brain.html\">your own sin<\/a>.\u00a0 Unless you know your sin, you cannot manifest this type of humble sorrow.\u00a0 Do you know your sin?\u00a0 From there, consider getting down on the ground, on your knees, bowing your head to the ground before Jesus and sincerely begging for His<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gloireadieu.com\/english\/prayers\/prayers-against-evil\/banish-darkness.html\"> compassion<\/a> and mercy.\u00a0 Try literally doing that.\u00a0 Make it real and total.\u00a0 The result is that Jesus will treat you in the same merciful way He did this sinful woman.<\/p>\n<p><i>Lord, I beg for Your mercy.\u00a0 I am a sinner and I deserve damnation.\u00a0 I acknowledge my sin.\u00a0 I beg, in Your mercy, to forgive my sin and pour forth Your infinite compassion upon me.\u00a0 Jesus, I trust in You.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> &#8230;
